Beauty comes before the bump say celeb mums

Mariah Carey and Michelle Heaton struggle to accept their baby curves

They’ve both posed naked during their pregnancies but Mariah Carey and former Liberty X star, Michelle Heaton, both say they’ve found it hard to feel beautiful in their pregnant skin.

Mariah, who gained 70lbs while pregnant with twins, Moroccan and Monroe, admitted she didn’t want hubby Nick Cannon to see her naked, despite posing in her birthday suit for the rest of the world.

“I had a towel on in the tub,” said Mariah. “I’m not lying, I promise you! You think I would let Nick see me looking rancid like that? I didn’t want to know [my weight], because why would I want to feel that bad? I know it was a number that I never want to see again.”

While she hasn’t gone so far as to describe herself as “rancid” during pregnancy, mum-to-be Michelle Heaton also admits she’s found it hard to accept her pregnancy weight gain.

“I’ve gone from a 34B to a 36E cup and Hugh thinks it’s amazing. At first, it was really hard to let my body go after being in firm control for three years, but now I’m getting used to my fuller figure.”

Michelle, who’s due to give birth in eight weeks and this week showed off her naked bump in Closer magazine, added, “I went through a period four months into the pregnancy when I felt really uncomfortable in my own skin and would cry about petty things.

“Hugh’s been an amazing support, but he’d bring home my favourite cakes every day, which didn’t help my body insecurities. One night, he brought home a slice of carrot cake and I screamed: ‘Why are you trying to make me f***ing fat?!’ while stuffing it into my mouth.”

While she’s now embracing her pregnant body, saying she “feels more womanly than ever”, Michelle is also looking forward to getting back into shape post birth.

“I’ve really missed the gym. I feel 10 years older – my muscles have seized up and all my joints feel under pressure. After the birth, I’m going to dust off the cross-trainer at home and order some fitness DVDs, so I can exercise whenever I have a spare minute.

“I’ll try to stick to a sensible, healthy diet and lose the baby weight that way. It’ll be All-Bran or Weetabix for breakfast, Ryvita with Philadelphia and ham for lunch and sweet potatoes, swede and steak for tea.”
